Lattimo is an opaque white glass, invented in Murano around the mid-15th century with the aim of imitating the first highly fashionable porcelains in Europe. It is obtained by overlaying or ‘jacketing’ the lattimo glass with one or more thin transparent and colored glasses, resulting in splendid objects with intense and bright colors. To embellish glasses with soft colors, gold and silver leaves are included over the entire surface, obtaining splendid ‘Gilded’ objects.
