The Gorham Corporation is undoubtedly the most important and largest silverware manufacturer in the United States, if not the world. It was the first, in 1837, to adopt a rational system of industrial production without disrupting craftsmanship. In 1863, it began producing excellent electroplate tableware. In fact, the metal articles had the same constructive and qualitative characteristics as those in silver. From the beginning, it adopted a precise hallmarking system based on the English model. Throughout its production history, up to today, Gorham is remembered for its refined and always innovative design as well as for the high quality of its products.
